Of Coast & Summit brings together a series of new paintings that reflect Peter Kettle’s deep engagement with place - from vast coastal horizons shaped by wind and tide to the commanding stillness of mountainous terrain. Drawing on travels through striking and often remote environments, Peter Kettle's paintings evoke both the physical grandeur and the quiet, reflective moments found within these settings.
Peter Kettle’s work is distinguished by its sensitivity to light, atmosphere, and movement. His expressive brushwork captures fleeting changes in weather and mood, while his compositions invite the viewer to step into each scene - whether standing at the edge of a shifting shoreline or looking out from a high summit across an expansive landscape.
The exhibition explores the contrasts and connections between these environments. The coast, ever-changing and fluid, meets the solidity and elevation of the summit, creating a visual dialogue that speaks to balance, perspective, and the passage of time. Through this interplay, Kettle offers not just a depiction of landscape, but a meditation on how we experience and remember the natural world.
Visitors can expect an immersive and contemplative exhibition, where each painting tells its own story while contributing to a broader narrative of exploration and connection. Of Coast & Summit is a celebration of landscape painting at its most evocative - rooted in observation, yet rich in emotion.
We warmly invite you to visit Of Coast & Summit and discover the powerful and poetic landscapes of Peter Kettle this spring at The Rutland Gallery.
