The Weightlessness of Hope II by Deborah Grice

SKU: RG1248
£1,200.00Price
  • Deborah Grice is an award-winning British landscape painter and printmaker and is a graduate of Glasgow School of Art and The Royal College of Art, London.

Drawn from the philosophy and aesthetics of the nineteenth century romantic landscape painters Deborah Grice’s paintings lure the viewer into a sense of familiarity. On closer viewing Deborah creates a disturbance and gentle provocation with the addition of incongruous graphic forms. These forms can take the shape of golden lines, scarlet tee sections and quadrilaterals. The geometric shapes within the paintings are used as a device that not only creates a visual dissonance but asks questions of the viewer.

Deborah Grice’s work explores an unsettling duality: should we delight in the beauty of the world or be concerned about its precarious future? While she doesn’t claim to predict what lies ahead, her paintings invite contemplation on humanity’s intricate relationship with nature and with each other, offering a glimmer of hope in the process.

Deborah Grice’s work has recently been shortlisted for the prestigious John Moores Painting Prize at the Walker Gallery in Liverpool.
