Steven Royles

Born in Withington, Manchester, 1982

Lives and works in Bolton, Greater Manchester.

My recent work is focused primarily on the depiction of Manchester and the surrounding areas. I attempt to capture the vibrant and rapidly changing landscape that I encounter daily. Through the use of both photography and sketching, a composition evolves which is then used as a starting point for a canvas. Each painting fluctuates between abstraction and representational painting as the process of application, scraping, editing and reworking, builds towards something that I hope is as exciting and intriguing as a moment in the city can be.
