Elsa Taylor
Elsa Taylor lives and paints from her home in the Cotswolds. Elsa Taylor’s inspiration derives from the surrounding countryside, from her travels to the Umbrian hills and from the dramatic beauty of the far north of Scotland and the coast of Cornwall – it is these very different landscapes that form the bedrock of her work.
Elsa Taylor's paintings are as much about feeling as they are about seeing the subject, whether capturing the bridle paths and woods from daily walks or the flowers and pots in the studio. Memory, too, plays an important role. Drawings and quick sketches of wild places in Scotland or hilltop villages in Italy often serve as the spark that inspires a new painting.
Elsa Taylor surrounds herself with beloved books, kept open to inspire colour, line, and brushstroke, featuring works by Giorgio Morandi, Nicholas de Stael, Joan Eardley, and Craigie Aitchison - an invaluable resource for a solitary painter. Robin Child, who opened her eyes to the world of art, remains an irreplaceable source of ongoing inspiration.
