Ann Armitage

Ann Armitage is a British contemporary painter best known for her still life paintings, works that are quiet, thoughtful, and carefully composed, with a strong focus on form, space, colour and balance.

Born in Huddersfield in 1959, Ann Armitage trained as a painter at Canterbury College of Art and Design, graduating in 1987. Ann first established her practice in a rented studio in Faversham before settling in London, where for sixteen years she painted from Parade Mews in Tulse Hill.

Ann Armitage’s work gained steady national recognition during this period, appearing frequently in prestigious open exhibitions including the Royal Academy Summer Exhibition and shows at the Mall Galleries with the Discerning Eye, the New English Art Club, the Royal Society of British Artists and the Royal Institute of Oil Painters. To sustain both Ann’s studio practice and her deep interest in travel, she worked part-time as a gardener, funding extended journeys across Nepal and India that would later inform the spirit and atmosphere of her paintings.

Ann Armitage moved to West Penwith, Cornwall in 2006 to devote herself entirely to painting. Two years later Fred Cuming RA selected six of her works for the Discerning Eye Exhibition, awarding her the West Country Regional Prize; she was also selected again for the Royal Academy Summer Exhibition that year.

Ann Armitage is represented by several UK galleries.
